NAME: Uzumaki Naruto
FANDOM: Naruto
CANON SYNOPSIS: As the primary character of the series, Naruto’s background is touched on at great lengths. Born in the Shinobi Village of Konohagakure, Naruto is the only known child of Uzumaki Kushina and Namikaze Minato, who is more commonly referred to as the Fourth Hokage. In the days leading up to Naruto’s birth, Konoha came under attack by the legendary Nine-Tailed Fox. In order to defeat the mythical Kyuubi, Minato was forced to seal the beast within his son’s navel at the cost of his own life, transforming Naruto into a Jinchuuriki - a human whose soul jails one of the tailed beasts. Minato and Kushina both died, leaving young Naruto as an orphan who was unaware of his heritage.
Minato’s last wish – that his son be viewed as a hero for containing the beast – was never honored and Naruto’s existence was typically ignored. Hated by both civilians and Shinobi alike, Naruto grew up with nobody and had an extremely lonely existence. After shedding countless tears, the young boy slowly began to hate the villagers back and began to tread down the path traveled by other vessels like him. Luckily, after Naruto entered the Shinobi Academy, he began to change and let go of his hate, learning that he could gain acknowledgement and attention through negative actions. By becoming Prankster and Class Clown, he received negative attention and scolding from his teachers and classmates alike. Though he made a few acquaintances during his time there, it wasn’t until just before graduation that Naruto made any real bonds – first with his teacher Umino Iruka and then with the members of his new Genin Cell: Hatake Kakashi, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura.
ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND: Namikaze Minato was a name that was revered in the underworld. A top hitman, Minato’s skills of being never scene and always fulfilling a mission were among some of the most desirable. That’s why when Minato tried to disappear, everyone was surprised. What nobody was surprised by was that a year later, there were still people chasing the legendary ‘Yellow Flash’.
It was in a small hospital in a quaint Korean village that his past finally caught up to him. To this day, nobody knows who finally found him. What Minato found, however, was his beautiful red-headed wife dead and his son kidnapped, a note left in his cradle instructing him to come to a typical warehouse if he wanted to see Naruto again. Minato had hoped he could get there before anything drastic occurred.
Sadly, it was far too late for that. Like so many before and after him, Naruto had become a twisted genetic product – his genes and DNA modified with that of Vulpine and other Canine DNA. However, to fully complete the modification would take years, and thanks to the intervention of an irate hitman, the project was halted before it could finish. As a result, Naruto typically only showed a few whisker-like markings on his face – however, when his emotions began to overflow, a more complete transformation would overtake him, making him into a powerful predator with enhanced speed, strength, and senses.
The rescue of Naruto was not something that would ever be forgotten by the townspeople – Minato’s final act was an explosion that consumed several warehouses. The baby Naruto was found within the hour, mostly unharmed, smiling just outside the blast radius. Nobody had any delusions about the young boy – it was obvious to anyone that Naruto was the son of a man of the underworld. With his newly formed whisker marks, many considered the baby an omen of worse things to come. In a way, they were right, but they couldn’t just abandon a young boy and so he was taken in by an orphanage.
Growing up, young Naruto had no illusions about being loved or wanted – people glared hatefully at him, blaming him for the drastic increase in Mafia-related activity that followed his kidnapping. Even the orphanage barely tolerated the young boy, giving him nothing but a roof over his head. As a result, Naruto learned a basic, but important, skill: pickpocketing. It was a painful skill to learn – it took many beatings at the hands of uncaring adults, but he eventually perfected it. And young Naruto learned something else, too. Crime could pay if you weren’t caught – and if you were, people at least paid attention to you.
As he continued to grow, Naruto slowly began to learn ways to commit other felonies as well – most were typical robberies or thievery, stealing things his young heart desired: food, money, whatever it was didn’t matter. Despite having that, the young boy never received any attention, so he took to vandalism as well, defacing cars, houses, public property, all for the sake of being caught and scolded.
So starved for attention was a ten-year old Naruto that when Umino Iruka, a recruiter for the Monacello approached him and told Naruto that he could teach him so much more and take him to a place where the skills he had developed and would develop would not only be needed but encouraged, Naruto couldn’t help but say ‘yes’.

THIRD PERSON: Blonde hair was something that had been considered out of the norm in the east, but in the west, it was something common. For this, nineteen-year old Naruto was thankful. He already stood out with his dang whiskers so it would’ve been crippling to have another identifier. Besides, he was a loud guy. There were some days that he had no idea why he was in this line of work or how he’d survive being in it much longer. “So, Johnny, I said to him – you listenin’ to me? – I said to him, “Man, aren’t you glad that I took you with me?” And you know what he says to me? Nothin’, cuz the guy ends up throwin’ up all over my shoes! He didn’t even have the decency to apologize.”
A few chuckles were heard from the small group of well-dressed men and women that Naruto was standing around with. Half-empty glasses in their hands, careless smiles on their faces, and cheap jewelry on their wrists and necks, the people at the party were hardly rich – calling them ‘well-dressed’ was giving them far too much credit for their own good. Among them, however, was a single diamond among the coal – a man that stood out. Some low-level government official, he’d recently stopped looking out for the Monacello family and had welcomed the gifts from the Vescovo. It’d made him slightly richer but it hardly mattered now. Naruto’s boyish charm and loud mouth had been entertaining them all night and it wouldn’t be long now.
“I’m so sorry, Peter, but I must cut out early from your delightful story.” ‘Peter’ had been the name he’d adopted for this fiasco – he was supposed to be some unimportant salesman from a little company that most people had never heard of, but Naruto had all but forgotten the details of his cover.
“Of course, Doctor. I understand! You’ve got a busy night ahead of you, right?” An amused twinkle in his eye and a boyish smirk on his face accompanied the statement as the two men shared a hearty laugh at the expense of the delectable blonde thing clinging to the man’s arm.
“Of course. I’ll be off then. Ciao.” It didn’t matter to Naruto where the Doctor went or what he did – if he was lucky, he’d never see him again. And it signaled the thing Naruto had been waiting for. People would slowly begin to drift home, making various excuses as they politely bid their new ‘friends’ farewell and thanked their host for his gracious hospitality. Just as slowly, the scent of cheap tobacco, whiskey, bad perfumes and cologne, and sweat began to recede until…
“Ah,” they were the last two people left, and the man was lecherously grinning at him, “Would you like to accompany me to my office, young Peter? I have some… items of higher quality up there. Some of the finest wine in the whole city, in fact.” Naruto didn’t doubt it – just as he didn’t doubt what other sort of items the man had or what that silly grin meant. It was a pity he’d be dead before he could enjoy it.
FIRST PERSON: Man, another dumb mission down the drain! I can’t believe the shitty missions they’re giving – all of ‘em are way too easy and I can’t show my excellent skills like this. Jeez, how disappointing. I’m getting bored here – how am I gonna rise through the ranks if they don’t give me a chance!?
…It’s nice to be back though. I missed Iruka and the others. Wonder if they’re interested in getting together or something. Well, we’ll see. Whatever. Later!
NOTES: Uh, none? I’ve left out any notes of what happens after joining the Monacello, figuring its important to leave some leeway for other characters.
